North Park is a community just northeast of Downtown San Diego and Balboa Park, and is well known for its’ diverse offering of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and retail stores. The famous “North Park” sign can be found at the intersection of 30th Street and University Avenue and is considered the heart of this popular neighborhood. North Park includes the sub neighborhoods of Morley Field, Altadena and Burlingame. Although North Park is a community of mixed architectural styles, the Morley Field area is especially known for the turn-of-the-century Craftsman Bungalows and California Bungalows. Renowned designer and builder David Owen Dryden designed many of these homes, and thus the area has become the site of the “Dryden Historic District”.
In more recent years, North Park has received quite a bit of national coverage for its’ growing popularity. In 2012, Forbes magazine dubbed it one of “America’s Best Hipster Neighborhoods” noting how culturally diverse the area is. In 2013 the Los Angeles Times described North Park as “all the ingredients for the cool school: It’s culturally diverse and has art galleries, boutiques, trendy bars with handcrafted cocktails and local brews, and foodie-approved eateries.” And in 2016 the National Association of Realtors named it among the “10 Hottest U.S. Real Estate Markets”.
North Parks’ Farmer’s Market takes place every Thursday and has been listed as one of the top 40 Farmer’s Markets across the country. The market features over 45 independent vendors offering locally grown produce and flowers, gourmet and ethnic foods, arts and crafts, books and live music.
With its’ bustling day and night life and eclectic modern mix of residents, events and businesses, its’ a wonderfully sought after community to call home.
