Incorporated in 1980, Poway is currently home to about 48,000 residents across an area of 39 square miles. Situated north of the city of San Diego and south of Escondido, nearby communities include Rancho Bernardo, Sabre Springs and Rancho Penasquitos.
Poway gets its’ name from the Diegueno Indians who called “Pauwai” home for several hundred years. Artifacts such as arrowheads, grinding stones and spear points can still be found along the bed of Poway Creek.
Award-winning Poway Unified School District (PUSD) has a record of high performance and currently consists of 25 elementary schools, 6 middle schools and 6 high schools.
