Escondido

Escondido is a city located in San Diego’s North County region roughly 30 miles northeast of Downtown San Diego. The city encompasses a shallow valley surrounded by rocky hills. Incorporated in 1888, Escondido is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County.

Escondido tends to have a typical Mediterranean climate with warm summers and cool wet winters. Due to its’ location further inland, it is considerably warmer than coastal communities such as Oceanside, Carlsbad and San Diego during the summertime, and cooler in the winter.

A main attraction to the area is the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, located near Escondido in the San Pasqual Valley. It is the sister park to the San Diego Zoo but differs in that it aims to show animals in open habitats.
