San Marcos is a city in the North County region of San Diego County. It is bordered by Escondido to the east, Encinitas to the southwest, Carlsbad to the west and Vista to the northwest.
One of the largest school districts in San Diego County, San Marcos Unified School District serves more than 20,000 students across San Marcos and in sections of Vista, Escondido and Carlsbad. The city is also home to Palomar College, University of St. Augustine and California State University San Marcos.
San Marcos is known for having some of the best restaurants in North County; Old California Restaurant Row features a large concentration of restaurants offering a variety of cuisines.
The community also boasts an abundance of open space and recreational parks, making it a popular destination for those looking to explore. Double Peak Park is frequented often, boasting panoramic views of northern San Diego County from the highest coastal peak in the county. On a clear day, one can see the San Bernardino Mountains over Greater Los Angeles to the north, and the skyscrapers of downtown San Diego to the south.
